Welcome to the Clothing Bank!
The Clothing Bank is a community effort providing clothing for Kent School District students in need and is organized and run by the Kent Area Council PTA. The Kent School District generously provides space at Kent Phoenix Academy and The Outreach Program (TOP) provides students who are in need of further developing life skills and job training to help sort and organize donations. The Kent Area Council PTA organizes and coordinates donations, hosts open nights for families to shop and provides volunteers from our schools to help run the Clothing Bank. The Kent Area Council PTA also acts as a liaison between the various community partners needed to run the Clothing Bank smoothly.
For families to access the Clothing Bank, they need a registration form completed and signed by a KSD employee, or another Kent community partner (Head Start, Kent Youth and Family Services, Communities in Schools of Kent, Kent Parks and Rec or a similar agency) to refer them. We ask when they come with their form on our open evenings that a family member have a picture ID that matches their paperwork. Their authorization form is good for the whole school year, with a new one needed for the next school year. There are no income or eligibility requirements, other than residing within the Kent School District boundaries and being of school age. Unfortunately, we don’t have the resources needed to serve parents and other adult family members at this time. Please see our 2019-2020 Calendar for a list of Open Nights. We ask that families do not bring small children with them, if at all possible. Families are allowed to begin lining up at 5:00 pm for registration. Due to space and occupancy restrictions, families are limited to one shopping night per calendar month. The Clothing Bank is managed and operated by students and volunteers. To run smoothly, an open night requires a minimum of 10-15 volunteers! Please email us at email@example.com if there is an open night that you would like to volunteer. Open nights are excellent opportunities for corporate community outreach as well. … and your stuff!
The Clothing Bank relies on the donations from members of our community to operate. We accept new (in the package) socks and underwear, tennis shoes and new or GENTLY USED clothes.
We do not accept furniture, linens/bedding, luggage, appliances, technology, toys, games or baby equipment. Due to space restrictions, we are limited to ONLY providing clothing and shoes.
Donations can be dropped off at Kent Phoenix Academy. There are dark green donation bins placed against the wall by the entrance to the Kent Parks Community Center. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for large volume donations.
